Born in Japan in 1998, Maruyama discovered the piano at the age of 3. From the age of 13, he performed in major halls such as Acros Fukuoka Symphony hall, Osaka Izumi hall, Tokyo Bunka Kaikan and Hamarikyu Asahi Hall, and with conductors such as Yukio Kitahara and Toshiaki Umeda. More recently, the Emperor of Japan heard his performance at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo.
After studying with Professor Seizo Azuma at the Tokyo University of the Arts, he went for a master’s degree at the Consevatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris, where he studied with Denis Pascal.
After obtaining his Master’s degree in 2022 he joined Romain Descharmes’ class in the concert cycle at the CRR in Paris.
He has benefited from the advice of Romain Descharmes, Antti Siirala, Michael Schäfer, Thomas Böckheler, Mika Sato, Mikiko Kido, Hiroko Hara and Keiko Takeuchi. In 2019, he won 3rd prize at the Tokyo Music Competition.
He has played in a wide range of ensembles and has recorded albums of Schubert’s Die schöne Müllerin and Winterreise with tenor Hitoshi Nakamura.
